IDPA CDP Division Club Championship at CCRC!

Saturday, April 22 will be the Capitol City Rifle Club CDP Division Club Championship. Bring a 45 ACP if you can to shoot the IDPA match. We will award a plaque for First Place in Master, Expert, Sharpshooter, Marksman and Novice classes. Plaques will be mailed the week after the match.

Sign up is at 8-9 AM and again 11AM-Noon for the morning and afternoon runs. Cost is $10 for CCRC members and $20 for nonmembers. A second run for everyone, member or nonmember, costs $10. Lunch will be available. You may shoot either morning or afternoon or shoot both runs. Only the first run will count towards an award.

Please keep your unloaded gun holstered or bagged until you reach the safe area table where you may handle your gun, but not handle ammo.

We will be using traveling Safety Officers all season so that they may also shoot themselves. I am looking for volunteers to be SO's. Please reply if you wish to help. SO's shoot for $5, all day. Knock down help at completion of the match is appreciated and then we retire to Spag's for food and beverages.

(On the Sunday, April 23 after the Saturday IDPA match we will host a new shooting sport at CCRC. This is called PCC for Pistol Caliber Carbine. We will leave the IDPA stages set up overnight and shoot the match on Sunday with 9mm, 40 S&W or 45 ACP carbines (such as the Ruger PC, Beretta Storm, AR-15 in 9mm, Marlin Camp 9, Mech-Tech, 45 ACP Thompson or other such carbines). M-1 carbines will not be allowed as the cartridge will wreck the steel targets. The cost will be $10 for CCRC members and $15 for nonmembers. We will shoot five stages of 24-32 rounds each. I suppose one could shoot the PCC match with a pistol if a carbine is not available, that will be OK. IDPA - Vickers scoring will be used. Sign up will begin at 8:30 AM and shooting will start at 9 AM. We should be finished by Noon.)

Open to both members and non-members

I hope to see you on the range. Bart Reiter

American Confederation of Tactical Shooters, Monthly Match! September 10th, 2005(and every second Saturday of the month thereafter)!

ACTS is a practical shooting sport in the vain of IDPA and IPSC, but instead of pistols, rifles are the primary tool.

The purpose of ACTS is to provide a sport in which Civilian gun owners along with Military and Law Enforcement professionals can practice 'real world' shooting skills with rifles of all types in a sporting venue that has not been offered by any other shooting discipline or association.
To promote safe gun handling, sportsmanship, and improve the proficiency of rifle owners.

Our Inagural event was a huge sucess and our plans are now to promote this new sport by holding monthly matches, and encourage shooters in other areas to pick up the ball and open new clubs using this format.

Summer of 2006 will see the first annual ACTS championships.

August 6, 2005 - John C. Garand Match
Although winter is upon us, it is time to look forward to this summers shooting events.  Of particular interest to Team GLSSA, is the John C. Garand Match to be held at Camp Perry

I would like to assemble a team roster, and Rod Collins needs to know shirt sizes of new members.  Many of us plan on shooting the Springfield Match on 8/05/05.  So let′s plan on showing off our team spirit during this bolt rifle match as well.

Let's all be there by Friday, so we can get squadded for the event on Saturday.  Go ahead and make motel reservations, yes this early!  You don't want to wait till the last moment like last year.  Although not finalized yet, I am thinking, "Nicks Roadhouse" for our get together Friday evening.  It is very reasonable, and they give the all important shooters′ discount.

I would like to encourage those who have the interest, to sign up for the Springfield Match on the 5th.  Maybe we can get a handful of GLSSA members to shoot in that match as well.

I hope this advanced notice will allow those with difficult schedules to make plans for next years match.  I am looking forward to shooting with all of you.  Please contact me at M-1Guy@Charter.net.  We are bringing even more medals home this year.  Please don′t neglect the dry firing!  Steve Larson

Chief Okemos Sportsmens Club IPSC Matches
Chief Okemos Sportsmens Club, Dimondale, MI holds shooting competitions called International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) matches once a month.  The matches adhere to the US governing body rules of the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA).  These matches require physical and mental toughness and the ability to produce accurate fire at a wide variety of targets on demand.

Chief Okemos also participates in USPSA 3 gun matches.  This type of shooting involves the use of 3 guns, pistol, rifle and shotgun in various courses of fire.

The match consists of four or five stages and about 120 rounds.  Ground conditions are usually dirty so boots with good souls are critical.  The 3 Gun match requires center fire pistol, rifle and shotgun  Please call Harold Hovey for all equipment questions.

Please visit USPSA's web site www.uspsa.org for rules, load and make ready commands, safe area rules and equipment requirements.

I respectfully ask that all competitors come to a USPSA match with confident gun handling skills and knowledge of current USPSA 14th edition rules.  A USPSA match is not a place to learn how to operate your firearm.  Pay your dues at home dry firing and/or on the range practicing your reloads and moving to new shooting positions while following safe gun handling skills.

The Great Lakes Shooting Sports Team brought back two medals from the John C. Garrand Match at Camp Perry
Dave Dieball won a silver medal and Mark Prange a bronze medal. Team Captain Steve Larson was on his way to a medal when he unfortunately double-fired on his rapid fire course. Steve just had a new match trigger installed and he was still getting use to it.

Thanks go to all of the GLSSA Team members. Steve Larson is working on next years team. There will be a full story with photos in the upcoming issue of the GLSSA newsletter
